Belize
Beautiful is her name!
WOW! What an amazing country! I can not stop thinking of how beautiful Belize is. I had the opportunity to travel through this hidden gem from January 15-20, 2019, and during the quest, I stayed in San Ignacio and Caye Caulker. During this particular quest, I also briefly traveled to the country of Guatemala, but back to the topic at hand, Belize. I would 1,000% recommend your next quest also include a stop in Belize. Most people know about the country from it being added to the cruise circuit, but the nation alone has a lot more to offer. From the deep tradition, culture, activities, and culinary, the options are truly endless. It is also beneficial to know Belize is the ONLY Central America English speaking country.
San Ignacio
The last city in Belize before you reach the country of Guatemala. If you want an authentic experience, you are in the right place. I utilized a shuttle to travel from Belize City to San Ignacio, and right away, you find out you are in for a treat! The roads are bumpy, and many are still dirt roads. Take a look at the picture we took with our fantastic driver (below)! While in the city we visited the stunning Mayan Ruins of Xunantunich and Cahal Pech. I also had the opportunity to do some fantastic cave tubing.
Caye Caulker
Okay, now if you are not into the walking and climbing accent ruins; Caye Caulker is truly the place for you! Everything is lovely, and the people are even more amazing. One thing that will put you in the mindset of vacation is you can walk around the entire island in two hours, and you can walk from side to side in under two minutes. Are you ready to know the mode of transportation? Golf cars or a bicycle, I only observed one car my entire stay on the island. While on the island, I had the opportunity to snorkel with Nurse Sharks, stingrays, and view coral reefs. Other highlights include massages on the beach, lunch in the water, sunset dinners, and incredible happy hours.
In closing, other small islands make up the country of Belize like San Pedro, but if you are looking for an authentic feel Caye Caulker is the option for you. Pro-tip, make sure you understand and review the water taxis/ferries departures and arrivals to ensure you do not miss your next destination.
